FAQs

What is the health & Wellness coach Scope of practice?

As stated by the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching,

“Health and wellness coaches work with individuals and groups in a client-centered process to facilitate and empower the client to develop and achieve self-determined goals related to health and wellness. Coaches support clients in mobilizing internal strengths and external resources, and in developing self-management strategies for making sustainable, healthy lifestyle, behavior changes.

While health and wellness coaches per se do not diagnose conditions, prescribe treatments, or provide psychological therapeutic interventions, they may provide expert guidance in areas in which they hold active, nationally recognized credentials, and may offer resources from nationally recognized authorities such as those referenced in NBHWC’s Content Outline with Resources.

As partners and facilitators, health and wellness coaches support their clients in achieving health goals and behavioral change based on their clients’ own goals and consistent with treatment plans as prescribed by individual clients’ professional health care providers. Coaches assist clients to use their insight, personal strengths and resources, goal setting, action steps and accountability toward healthy lifestyle change.”

Do you help people with non-diabetes concerns?

Yes! While the GraceMark focus is on the unique challenges and needs of people living with diabetes, we may take on clients and/or develop materials helpful for other chronic conditions or general health and well-being. If you have a question about whether a service or resource is applicable to your self-determined goals, please let us know and we will help you to assess if it’s a mutual fit.

Is coaching covered by my health insurance?

Coaching is not yet covered by major health plans. However, you may be able to use your Health Savings Account (HSA), Flexible Spending Account (FSA), or Health Reimbursement Account (HRA) funds to pay for health and wellness coaching services. We can provide you with information to assist in your quest to determine whether your account accepts these charges. Additionally, some employers offer wellness stipends that can be used for this purpose.

If your health plan, employer, or partner’s employer offer access to Maven, a digital health clinic focused on women’s and family healthcare, you can utilize this benefit to work with our founder, Samantha Markovitz, NBC-HWC, through unlimited telehealth coaching sessions and messaging.

What’s the best way to work with Gracemark?

As we’re known for saying around here, it depends!

For individuals:

We offer 1:1 coaching options, digital resources, and self-paced courses to address your needs. If you’re not sure where to start, we recommend booking a free initial session. We can assess your needs and work together to determine the most effective path forward for you. If what we offer is not a fit, we’ll always do our best to point you in the direction of something that may work better for you.

For organizations or businesses:

We’d love to learn more about how we can assist you in your goals. In the past, we’ve done this through consulting, content creation partnerships, and expert resources on the topic of diabetes, general health and well-being, and coaching. If you’re looking to work together on one of these (or have a unique idea you’re looking to support), please contact us.

What sets gracemark apart from other diabetes coaches?

We love to see the growth taking place in the field! We stand behind the National Board for Health and Wellness Coaching as the starting point folks should look for when discerning whether or not a coach or coaching company may be a fit for them.

Style and substance sets each coach and coaching-based resource apart, as each brings their own unique experience and perspective to the “coach approach”. At GraceMark, ours is evidence-based and places value on associating efforts towards overall health and well-being with personal meaning. If you don’t know why you want to pursue a goal, the chance of you achieving it are diminished, which is why we focus on your vision and how it aligns with your values to help you get there.

Do you have recommendations or referrals outside of the realm of coaching?

Absolutely. From free resources to clinicians, we make an effort to get to know our community and make helpful recommendations and referrals wherever possible. Please feel free to reach out if we can be of service with this information.
